Sowing calendar by month
Which of these are local producers harvesting right now?
Seasonal calendar →Which region is this sowing calendar for?+
Continental Croatia, growing in the open, that is Slavonia and Baranja: the last spring frost is usually in mid-April and the first autumn frost at the end of October. On the coast sowing and planting come two to four weeks earlier, in the hills later.
When do tomatoes, peppers and aubergines go out?+
Once frost is no longer a risk, which here is traditionally after the Ice Saints (11 to 13 May). Their seedlings are sown in February and March, somewhere warm or in a heated greenhouse.
What is the difference between sowing for seedlings and sowing outdoors?+
Seedlings are raised under cover and planted out once they are strong, which gives the plant a head start of several weeks. Crops that dislike being moved or come up quickly are sown straight into the garden: carrots, parsley, peas, beans, radishes, dill.
Does this calendar follow the phases of the moon?+
No. The dates follow the climate and soil temperature of continental Croatia, not the moon.
Where can I buy seedlings and seeds?+
The “Seedlings on Plodovi” and “Seeds on Plodovi” labels are read live from the shop: the product has to be in stock and available for an open delivery day in your region.
