Cooking plan

What to make on which day, so the holiday itself is only warming up and serving.

  1. The day before · Monday, February 8

    • Bean stew with sausages · Carnival lunch

Soak the beans overnight in cold water.

  2. On the day · Tuesday, February 9

    • Bean stew with sausages · Carnival lunch

Simmer the beans with the smoked meat for two hours; add onion fried with paprika, and the sausages for the last half hour.

    • Sauerkraut salad · Carnival lunch

Rinse the sauerkraut if it is too salty, dress it and leave it half an hour before serving.

    • Krafne (Croatian doughnuts) · Carnival lunch

Knead a soft dough, let it rise, cut rounds, let them rise again and fry them until the pale ring shows. Fill with jam while warm.

Questions

When is Fašnik?
Shrove Tuesday is 47 days before Easter, the day before Ash Wednesday, so the date moves every year; the carnival season runs from Epiphany until then.
How many doughnuts per person?
Plan two to three per person: dough from 70 g of flour makes about two and a half medium doughnuts.
